Almost nobody in this industry publishes prices. We do — ours, and the market's. Here is what Highland cattle actually cost in Australia and what drives the number up or down.

What we charge.
All figures are GST-inclusive and hold for the current season. Collection is from the property near Orange, NSW.

Included in every price: AHCS registration and transfer where applicable, DNA parentage verification, halter training, vaccination and drenching, NLIS tag, vet health statement on collection day, and a written specification you can hold us to. Not included: transport, which is yours to arrange.

Compiled from 61 Australian listings across breeder sites, AgTrader and Gumtree, plus published breeder price lists. Ranges are what animals are advertised at — not necessarily what they sell for.

Registration
An AHCS-registered animal with verified DNA parentage is worth roughly double the same animal without papers. Papers are also the only thing that makes progeny registrable.

Halter training
A genuinely handled animal sells for about twice an unhandled one — and is a completely different proposition to keep. Ask how many hours, not whether "she's quiet".

Rare coat
Silver, white and brindle carry a 50–70% premium over red and black. It's scarcity pricing. It holds on resale, but it buys you looks, not a better cow.
The cost nobody quotes
The purchase price is the small number.
People budget for the cow and forget the paddock. Before you commit to a price, cost these:
| Fencing | $15,000–$30,000 to bring an unprepared block to a standard that holds horned cattle safely. Horns need clearance at gates, races and yards. Quote it before you buy an animal, not after. |

Deposits & refunds
How deposits work, and when you get yours back.
A deposit exists to cover a seller's genuine loss when a buyer walks away — the marketing, the admin, the feed, and the months an animal spends off the market with someone's name on it. It is not supposed to be a large slice of the sale price, and a breeder asking for 30% up front on an animal that doesn't exist yet is asking you to fund their business.
Ours are capped under 10%, held in a separate account, and refunded in full if:
- the dam doesn't conceive;
- the calf is stillborn or not viable;
- the animal materially differs from the written specification — wrong sex, wrong class, or a guaranteed colour missed;
- we can't deliver by the long-stop date in your agreement; or
- there is a major failure under the Australian Consumer Law.
You also get a 14-day acceptance window after collection to raise a "not as described" claim, and where a dispute is genuinely subjective — temperament, horn conformation, how she's grown against her photographs — it goes to an independent arbiter agreed in advance, not to a shouting match.
Your statutory rights come first
Nothing in our terms limits your rights under the Australian Consumer Law. If anything we've written appears to, the ACL wins. Full terms are provided in writing before any deposit is taken — never after.
Our terms are being finalised with a rural and consumer-law solicitor before the waitlist converts to allocations. The figures on this page are indicative until that work is signed off, and we'll publish the final document here rather than emailing it on request.
